Crossing Florida on a Brompton
Central Florida has a thousand personalities. Sure, we all know the theme parks, and the big cities of Tampa and Orlando, but there are also huge swaths of barely developed pastures, orange groves, irrigation canals and lakes to catch a cyclists’ eye while pedaling the miles away. A lot of people come to Florida to escape the cold of winter and return with stories and surprises. This tour was no different!

Bike Packing California on a Brompton
California has so much to offer when it comes to bike touring. You can be riding 2000 km along the Pacific Ocean, up 3000 metres mountains in the Sierras or cycle through incredible forest of giant Redwood trees. Or why not if you have Brompton you might be able to combine them all even if you are a little short in time. Some of the highlights are shown on this video and there are many more to explore.

British Columbia Tour on a Brompton
Video of a Brompton cycling tour in British Columbia, Canada. Starting from Lake Louise I headed towards the Pacific Coast via Yoho National Park, Mt Rogers Pass, Revelstoke, Lilloet, Duffey Lake Whistler before reaching Vancouver, the final destination.

San Francisco Ramblings on a Brompton
A bike touring video of the San Francisco Bay Area on a Brompton folding bike. The tour was divided into two parts and included cycling in San Francisco itself then following the Pacific coast to Santa Cruz before heading up to Big Basin National Park. The second part was mostly spent cycling around Skyline Drive, Alpine Road, Page Mill Road, La Honda, etc.

Jeremy Mendelson Brompton podcast
I made an appearance on this week's episode of Pedalshift with Tim Mooney, which reminded me I hadn't shared this episode from my winter bike overnight in February on my Brompton folding bike. It was perhaps more successful than Tim's most recent ride on the C&O Trail, albeit shorter, a few degrees warmer and solo (sans dog). Notice how there was no snow in Denver but about four feet at my apartment just 75 miles west (and 4,000 feet higher) in Breckenridge.

Western Express Bike Packing on a Brompton
Video highlights from the Western Express Route in Utah and Colorado completed on a Brompton folder bike. The 1350 kilometres included a detour into Zion National Park. Some of the other wonderful parks crossed included Bryce Canyon, Red Canyon, Escalante, Petrified Forest, Capital Reef and Canyonland.

San Diego to Vancouver on the Sierra Cascades
Why such a long way on a small bike? a passer-by asked me on the Sidmouth promenade as I prepared myself for the climb out of town.
He listened as I tried to tell him that beautiful things come in small packages but as he began to talk about his Bmw Gs I realised he was beyond redemption.
What I didn’t tell him were my plans to ride a Brompton from San Diego to Vancouver (BC) along the Sierra Cascades, the cycle route that shadows the better-known Pacific Crest Trail across the Unites States. To describe the SC in one word, it is mountainous. The route conquers seven ranges, the greatest of which are the Sierra Nevadas in California and the Cascades through Oregon and Washington, for a total ascent of about 150,000′ over 2400 miles.

New England Brompton Tour
Inspired by the promising colours of the autumn leaves I set off for a thousand kilometres Brompton tour in New England. Starting in Boston Massachusetts, the ride took me to New Hampshire's White Mountains National Park, before crossing into Vermont and its magnificent Green Mountains National Park searching for a perfect maple leaf. Back into Massachussetts and the Berkshire hills after a short visit to Connecticut, it was time for a couple of days of riding in New York City.

New England Brompton Tour
Taking in the colors of the New England automn season, I did a 1053 kilometres tour on a Brompton. The cycling tour started in Boston Massachusetts and the small folder performed admirably once again, through the states of New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut before the final parade into New York City.

Road Tripping with Folding Bikes
Last summer my boyfriend and I planned an epic, two weeks 1864 mile (3000 kilometer) circular road trip by car that would take us from Vancouver through some of the most beautiful scenery of BC and the Alberta Rocky Mountains (The Rockies), a place I have wanted to return to since I had been there with my family as a teenager. But this road trip was different because I experienced a lot of it by bike.

Brompton Pacific Coast Tour
We did a lot of research on which folding bikes to purchase and ultimately landed on Bromptons for one reason: they fit in an overhead compartment (unless you’re on a tiny plane; more on that later). Yes, Bromptons are more expensive than Bike Fridays, Dahons, etc, but with bike luggage fees running up to $ 150 one way, we will definitely save money after just a couple trips.

Jasper to Vancouver on a Brompton Folding Bike
Watch the video of a 1400 kilometres bike tour with a Brompton Folding Bike completed in July 2015. The tour starting point was Lake Louise, heading north to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway then returning on the same road back to Lake Louise before heading West to Vancouver via Whistler. The Brompton again was a joy to ride and made it a hassle free adventure.

Brompton In The Snow!
Winter offers special challenges for my Brompton folding bike as it’s not really built to handle snow. I have to disassemble and clean the derailleur at least every two weeks. Yet considering that I have no real treads left on my tires, I think the bike is handling quite well, and the snow is just about over.

California Coast On A Brompton
A twenty days and 1300 kilometres ride from the northern California border to San Luis Obispo. Like last year the Brompton proved an amazing and reliable bike. During the trip I had to take one bus transfer to cut about hundred kilometres of busy roads. I just pulled aside once I reached the bus stop and in less than ten minutes the bike was neatly packed and ready to board the bus!
One Month Loaded Touring On Bromptons
Russ and Laura's blog The Path Less Pedalled was my first personal inspirations when considering the Brompton as a feasible touring option. As they say there isn't such a thing as a perfect touring bicycle but after a month on the road they felt Bromptons do fit their traveling style perfectly and are as perfect to them as they could have hoped to find.
